Do Something Beautiful by York Moore

In his eloquently written book, Do Something Beautiful, Mr. Moore shares the beauty of righteousness and the gospel of Christ. He starts out with a story/analogy about fireflies; growing up in the south I am very familiar with the majesty and beauty of a firefly. The firefly as small as it is brings a beautiful light to the deep vastness of darkness that envelops the deep country landscape on a summer’s night. Reading this was so nostalgic, and hooked me in, right from the beginning.

I love how he intricately weaves personal testimonies throughout the text without making it a story about his life. This book is about community, it is about righteousness, and paints a beautiful picture of what the Christian life should look like as based on the gospel of Christ. If you have ever experienced feeling lost or misplaced in your faith, this book is for you. We all have an assignment, we all have a contribution to make in this broken world; we are all part of a beautiful story that is written by God. This book focuses on justice and righteousness, things that are definitely hard to come by in this broken world but in the pages of this book we are able to have hope that we are part of something bigger, a beautiful community where injustice no longer prevails when we all “see the light in ourselves, then …carrying that light into the world…sharing it with other and by doing the righteous and beautiful things of God together.” You will finish this book encouraged and excited about your place in God’s story and in the beautiful community you find your way to.
