…But I Planned My Life Out Perfectly

It’s funny how God works. His ways are definitely not my ways and His thoughts are definitely not my thoughts (trust me, that is a good thing)….We all have a journey that we take in this thing called life. Sometimes things work out like we plan, but more often than not, they do not. I once had a plan for my life; it wasn’t grand, it wasn’t absurd, it was actually rather boring. In my mind, I would graduate high school, go to college, get a good job so I would not be poor and I would travel as much as I could. Boom! That was my seventeen year old self…I didn’t have many details, but I had a plan. But, oh the details.

Details. Detours. Miscalculations. Re-calibrations. Actualizations.

Yeah, those. I left those out. What I didn’t foresee was that I would be a very young/single mother. I had my son when I was a sophomore in college. I didn’t see working 30+ hours, while going to school full time, and taking care of a little baby boy. I didn’t see the broken relationships, some of which have yet to be repaired. I didn’t see almost losing my life to ulcerative colitis. I didn’t see myself getting married and dealing with infertility. I didn’t see myself suffocating under a mountain of student loan and other consumer debt. I didn’t see myself fighting to maintain my integrity while dealing with an unfair (in my opinion) court case. I didn’t foresee the consequences of my actions, the burdens I would bare, the struggles I would face. I didn’t foresee the details of the journey.

When you look at the details I left out, one could wonder, how I could make it with all of that going on? Some may pity me. Some may even condemn me. But the beautiful thing is, God knew the details. God knew every single detail….I invite you on this journey with me. Those messy, yet beautiful details have made me into the woman I am today. A woman I am proud of: She is determined, strong, faithful, hopeful, an overcomer, successful, optimistic, unshakable…and she has unlimited faith.
